Hey this is Lindsay :)

Strengths:
1. cool fonts/ graphics and transitions
2. picture slide show during girls cross country was unique
3. basketball story had personality behind it
4. each segment had interviews that recapped the team's season
5. senior advice and highlight at the end
Areas to Improve:
1. Choppy interviews were used
2. Interviews were poor (the people were either stuttering or rambling on about random things and the lighting was too dark sometimes)
3. I liked the music but sometimes it got too distracting during the interviews (same goes for the background sound on some of the b-roll with people screaming random things in the middle of interviews)
4. Intramural basketball (along with a few other spots) had a random interview segment left in the final video that didn't belong there
5. They cut of Kaiti W. in her interview about volleyball midsentence.

Overall i thought the video was made really well. They sectioned it off into seasons and then activities occurring in those seasons which was nice and easy to follow. After a while there was this one song that started to get super annoying so maybe try to vary it up a little (maybe it was just a long song). I thought the video was very entertaining, especially the end where they included some random students from each grade who shared their comments and stories about the year.

Hello this is Mark!

The biggest strengths that I thought the video yearbook had was that it had very fun transitions and graphics. I also thought it was cool how they had so many highlights of so many different activities going on around the school.

Some areas that I thought were a little weak..well there really wasn't too many but I did think that it got a bit choppy at times and some of the interviews I felt really did not belong in the yearbook.

Overall I felt that they did quite a fantastic job with the yearbook considering they had a lot of stuff to do for that. I can definitely believe that it is tough to do and I think that they really handled it well and put forth their best work on this project. Hopefully we will have a better one this year! adios

The Goods
-Good transitions
-Some stories were good such as the football and track stories
-Music was nice
-Great shot and some good interview
-Good overall movie to wrap up the year

The Bads
-Interview were cut off and choppy
-Music was too loud for some interviews
- Some interviews were unneeded with people talking about random stuff and not the overall sport or recap of the sport
-Random clips that didn't seem to fit in such as the girls basketball story. It had clips from them warming up when people want to see game footage
-As Sertic said the voices on some interview were not aligned properly
-Some sections were also much longer compared to others

Overall I thought it was a good movie. How they split it up on the menu title screen and how they put it in order was very nice so u could remember the event in which they happened. Overall a good movie.

Hey guys it's Anna.

Strengths:
1. The transitions were awesome-very clean.
2. I loved the senior advice segment-pretty cool to see them one more time and get to hear what they had to say about their high school experience.
3. I liked the addition of natural sound and interviews.
4. Awesome footage for the most part-the football footage was superb. The golf segment added a unique flair (the shots and interviews).
5. Overall this video yearbook was well thought out with a segment for each season and further broken down into activities during that season.

Weaknesses:
1. Needed more variety of music-or shorten the air guitar solo during the girls hockey segment...
2. Where is boys soccer segment??
3. The interviews were a little choppy at certain points and were sometimes cut off. -better backgrounds for interviews next time?
4. I think there needed to be graphics under all that were interviewed.
5. There were some shots that were too dark or were in need of white balance.

Alright so I think we need to get awesome footage and interviews starting now so we have B-roll for our yearbook to make later on.

Overall the video was well planned out and they did a great job considering how big a task the video yearbook is. Well done Flash of 2008...here we go Falsh of 2009!

Hey it's Alaina-
Well, here goes!

I really liked the intro to the video yearbook. It made me excited to watch it:)
I liked that each bit had an interview- it gave us a connection to the club if we weren't all that familiar with it.
I loved the bit at the end on each grade's prespective on the year! I don't know if it's been done- but it was cute:)
I loved the football bit- makes me even more excited to go to this years football games!!!

Some things to improve..

I liked the music at first, I was like 'sweet this music really pumps you up!' but then after the first ten minutes you're like okay this extreme guitar is like whoa- too much.
Sometimes you couldn't hear interviews.
I noticed many mistakes- Like things were chopped short, lighting sometimes sucked (but not too often).
Sometimes I got confused if they were on a new activity or not because there were missed transitions. They missed activities too!!
Did anyone notice that 50% of the time, the mouths didn't line up with what was being said..?

It's funny, I watched each clip and would think 'I distictly remember having heard this before...in the stories'- thats not really negative I just felt like putting that out there haha

Well anywho, it was overall done really well. We should definitely plan on getting some quality footage in our stories to make for a quality flashback:)

Hey It’s Colleen

Strengths:
1. The Senior advice was a nice feature
2. Included things that were unique to that year of school such as flash credits, and also pop culture things like different dances from that year. Reminds you of big things from that year.
3. There was a really good interview with a football player in the middle of a game on the field that just made that part of the video. Sadly it was the only one I noticed in the whole video.
4. The pictures of all these different people close to the end brought the video to something that is not normally seen like pictures before dances or a bunch of friends at somebody’s pool
5. Every group involved an interview with somebody which added a personality to that group

Weaknesses:
1. For me, a lot of the interviews didn’t add a lot to the video. Some were reporters voiceovers directly from stories that just didn’t work, and others were interviews that seemed to be set up as a last resort to get someone talking. I think these kind of interviews should be done when the people are playing a game so you get the game being played behind them instead of the TV studio that has nothing to do with their activity.
2. There could have been some kind of graphics that pop up on the bottom saying the records of different sports team for their whole season and maybe the names of who is talking
3. Some of the camera shots were just too shaky to be used in the video
4. Some of the Audio clips were telling people to come out that weekend and watch the team play which was completely irrelevant for the video
5. To me, the video was lacking a real feel of the energy Eastview has in it after every year.

This Video was going in the right direction and did a good job of wrapping up the best parts of the school year. There are some things though that need to be cleaned up and fixed a little and by keeping that in mind I think we can really as a group make a great video yearbook for our school.

yoyo it's Tom

positives

-Had students from all different parts of the school
-Had a central theme and consistent graphics
-The senior advice at the end was good
-Good mix of moving and still shots to keep the audience interested

Negatives

-Inconsistent audio during interviews
-The music ran a little long/dull
-Not enough live audio (bands, cheering, game footage, etc.)
-Interviews weren't cleanly cut/ended abruptly
-The graphics took too long in between clips

Hey, this is Megan.

Strengths:
1) The fact that it is free is really nice. It's a great way to get people pick up a copy.
2)I loved the music, it got my attention right away.
3) The organization of the DVD was really nice. Everything was listed out right away.
4)The transitions from story to story were nice. They were short, and smooth.
5) The Football B-roll especially was really good. I liked the shots that they put in for the show.

Weakness/Areas to Improve:
1) I'm not sure if this could change, but the length of it is pretty hefty. Is there anyway we could trim down some of the segments?
2) Each section seems kind of awkward. The interviews mixed with the music and edits are just really weird feeling.
3) Especially with the Coronation ceremony story, the camera work was shaky. There were times when the person on the screen couldn't even be seen.
4)The B-roll was to quick. There was not time to focus on what was being seen, and the next shot would come up.
5) This might just be me, but aren't you supposed to see (just once) the person that is being interviewed? Because there were times when the video would play with a voice over, and I never saw who was speaking. That could be something to fix.

Other than that...it was good year book. Good job!

Hello people my name is Kait.

Well-done...
1)There was a good balance between video footage and still photos.
2)It was very well organized, it was nice to see that it was chronological.
3)For the MOST part, the segments were pretty equal in length, nothing seemed to entirely overshadow segments.
4)Creative and fun transitions.
5)It was obvious that effort was put into it for the most part and that one person was not left doing the entire thing on their own.

Could be improved...
1)It seems like a lot of the people interviewed were from the same social groups or "cliques" if you will. Yes there was some variety, but it seemed to contain a lot of the same people.
2) They should have more coverage of events like Homecoming and spirit weeks, sports seemed to dominate a bit.
3)I would've liked to see a little longer senior farewell section perhaps?
4) It's probably tedious, it'd be nice to have name graphics with all interviews.
5) Some interveiws were choppy and incomplete.

Overall it was very well done and entertaining. Obviously something of this length requires a lot of time and effort so I think they did a great job.

Hey its Kelsey...North

What I liked:
-I think they touched on pretty much all of the different aspects of Eastview as a school
-Music made it not so boring to just look at pictures or constant cheering at sports games
-good transitions it didn't look too random
-the senior advice part because it kind of highlights them since its their last year and most of the people that will watch it will be younger
-interviews for each activity/sport made it more personable and student related

What I think could be improved:
-some of the interviews seemed like they were chopped off really abruptly at the end or they started halfway through their first word
-the location of some of the interviews...they should have tried not to get interviews in the tv studio
-there was some rambling..
-sometimes the person's moving mouth did not match the words we heard
-it seemed super long. it just kept going and going and going

I think that overall it was a pretty good video yearbook. I know it would be hard to fit all of the activities in a short amount of time and it would be hard to really portray the feel of Eastview on video but I think they did a good job!

Hey! it's hannah =)

Things I liked:
1) high energy music
2) solid interviews that recapped the activity well
3) different angles to each activity
4) unique camera shots/good variety in each segment
5) student year recaps and senior advice

things that could be improved:
1) all people being interviewed should be shown. some segments (volleyball for example) did not show everyone you just heard them
2) more still pictures could be added in the segments. they were nice with the seniors at the end
3) the hardcore rock got really annoying and was "giving my sister a headache"
4) better camera shots (coloring/quality)
5) improve on editing (lots of cut-off speaking etc.)

I really enjoyed watching it overall though =)

Hey all, Emma here.

I really enjoyed watching the video yearbook..some really cool stuff on here.

Things I think that were done well:
1. Some really good interviews. I think they were more interesting than just footage and music. I also thought the more humorous interviews were a GREAT addition and made it much easier to watch.
2. I like the fonts and graphics, and also the opening..some really cool effects going on there.
3. I liked the favorite moments of the year/advice to the underclassmen..a cool way to wrap it up.
4. A lot of sports were covered which was cool, but the segments usually didn't last too long.
5. I think the still pictures used were a cool idea..a good contrast to straight footage.

Things to improve:
1. Some of the interviews and camera work could be improved. I think sometimes an interview was used just to have someone talking, and they weren't necessarily that great.
2. I think we should try to cover more than just sports. I know there was some fine arts, but I think it would be cooler to try to get some other clubs, etc. that don't get as much recognition. (But I know we can't get them all, its just an idea)
3. Some of the footage was repeated, which I think is totally avoidable (like they showed the Prom footage twice, once right after the other).
4. Some of the sound levels were uneven, and you couldn't hear some of the interviews.
5. I think it would also be cool to vary the music up a little bit more. The choices were good, but they got just a little bit redundant.

Overall, however, it was really good and enjoyable to watch, and I am excited for us to see what we can do and how we can make it even better!!!!

Alright, hey this is Ryan. Let's see, overall it was an amazing product, they didn't leave much out which is quite a feat in itself.
5 things I liked-
1. The organization was simple and easy to follow both between stories, within stories, and between categories as well- it would've been easier if the transition between main categories was different than the transitions between everything else.
2. The B-roll always fit well with what was being said, I think they even tried to match the marching band footage up with the music haha. They must have gone through a lot of archives but the b-roll was well put together.
3.They didn't just get seniors for everything, all students were included in it.
4. Everything had depth. They didn't just skim any of the activities they all had time put into them.
5. I really liked the Fiddler on the Roof piece- but it could just be because I thought the musical was awesome.
6 Things to improve-
1. A-Roll and music overlapped sometimes
2. Interviews could have been better, there were a few that you could tell were recorded for a flash or 4cast episode that aired earlier in the year but they could have been cropped to not make it so obvious.
3. Music. It could have changed more often, some of the beats were really repetetive and lasted for a while too.
4. A lot of it was about sports. In comparison to my yearbook, a lot of clubs were left out, however that's understandable.
5. It would have been cool after the interviews to see the teams' records or accomplishments.
6. I thought it was hilarious that they just used Gauger's prom story, voice-over and all. Nothing against it though.

All in all, very well done by Blake and Evan and it looks like quite a project. Falsh Anna? :)

Paige's Turn

Strengths:
1. i agree with lindsay. transitions and graphics were well done.

2. overall every topic was covered equally

3. good choice of music as well as use

4. interview questions were generic but made sense.

5. i liked the face that pictures were used and it wasn't all b-roll.

Weaknesses:
1. the obvious: audio was off and music was often to loud. Many times it was difficult to hear interviews at all

2. i for sure agree that many interviews were pointless and were entirely unneeded.

3. It was clear (probably only to us) but often entire stories were used... kinda unoriginal and sometimes it made to narrow of an angle.

4. i really didn't like the random shots of interviews without audio.

5. the whole video seemed like it wasn't double checked for errors.

Kinda harsh i know but in general i enjoyed it. I thought they did a good job of covering everything and not highlighting anything over something else.

heyy heyy its Karlee :-)

Liked:
1. loved the transitions thought they were really cool
2. Boys Cross Country had good B-Roll
3. Good Hockey B-Roll
4. Loved the variety of music used that seemed to fit the activities.
5.The advice from the seniors as well as the senior picture slide show were both really cool

Disliked:
1. A lot of interviews were done in the studio
2. Natural sounds sometimes took over the interview
4. Girls Cross Country was all pictures
5. Some interviews the mouth and the sound were off
6. Some of the clips were cut in the middle of a sentence

Overall i really liked the way the video yearbook was put together. You could definetly tell who put in more effort and who put in less. And one last thing, what happened to boys soccer?

Kelsey Reger here. ♫ ♫ ♫

Positives:

-The wide range of people in the interviews was nice. Not just the typical people you can tell the people with whom the video-makers are friends.

- The Boys Basketball section of the viedo was interesting. The footage was awesome, the interviews were sincere & funny- true to their personalities- and I found myself enjoying it more than the rest. I don't even like basketball that much!

- The simplicity behind the Golf section was sweet. Just the boys saying how many years they've played and how much they love it over shots of them teeing off. Short & sweet is sometimes the best.

- I liked how the interviews with the students at the end drifted from various peoples' favorite memories then returned to those same people for them to say what they're looking forward to for next year.

- I liked the mix of still images sent in by the seniors of themselves with the footage of students at the end. It's not so posed & really showcases who they were as a class. Very 'Real'.

Negatives:

- Shakey camera work. Sometimes unavoidable, but still ugly.

- AUDIO was inconsistent & the balance between the music & the interviews wasn't good. Twas WAY too loud sometimes.

- You could tell much of the footage was used straight from a story, which is fine, but just try to edit it up so it's not so repetitive. Also, I heard someone saying: ..."signing off for the.." once.

- Too much natural sound on the soccer interviews. I couldn't concentrate. Very distracting.

- The Softball interview was silly. I felt it was irrelevant to the year to include an interview during which the player explained the differences between softball & baseball.

Question:
Is it customary for these video yearbooks to focus on the seniors? I think it's cool, but perhaps we could branch out a bit more.

Anonymous said...

Hey It's Peter,

I think overall the yearbook was really well made but plenty of improvements can be made.

Some good things were that the like all others have said in general everything was well made. I like the variety of topics, which I think we can still expand this year. As well the orginization of the different topics really enhanced the video overall.

Now some things to improve upon. Interviews are almost all very poor. They apear rushed and are for the most part extremely cheesy and not genuine. People need to take time with there interviews and really get those powerfull sound bytes out of the person. As well B-Roll and background sound are not properly used to enhance the stories, and serve as more of a distraction than anything else.

I think with the correct amount of focus on the video yearbook, and some strong editing we can greatly improve the video yearbook.

Well Goodnight to all. See ya tommorow.
